Poggio Valente Morellino di Scansano Riserva DOCG

The Poggio Valente is a blend of 85 percent Sangiovese (Morellino), with Merlot, Alicante and Canaiolo, hand picked in October. The grapes are grown on a 2.5 hectares vineyard in medium-textured stony clay soils on slopes at 200-250 metres of altitude at Poggio Valente in the commune of Magliano in Toscana. The vines, of 25 years of age, are planted at a density of 4,200 per hectare and all trained in the Guyot method. All grapes are stemmed and soft crushed and the must fermented in stainless steel tanks at 28-30 degrees Celcius fro 20 days on the skins with frequent pumping over the cap. After malolactic fermentation in small barrels, the wine is matured for a year in new barriques of French oak, then bottled and cellared for at least 9 months before release.
