Fanti
In Tuscany it's not unusual that estates are run as a fattoria or tenuta, a farm that often makes a variety of agricultural products in addition to wine. At the Tenuta San Filippo this tradition has been continued since the Fanti family took over the property in the early 18th century. However, under guidance of Baldassare Fanti the production of wine gradually came to the foreground, ultimately bringing recognition and fame to this historic estate.
The basis of this success was the extensive modernisation of the winery in the early 1980's, enabling to control the entire winemaking process. With over 50 hectares of vineyards producing top quality fruit, winemaker Stefano Chioccioli possesses all the tools needed to craft fine wines, something he has done since the first releases in 1985. The Brunello di Montalcino is Fanti's impressive flagship, a wine which powerful tannins are soothed by the use of small barriques. Apart from an outstanding Rosso di Montalcino the range is complemented by a cuvee called Sant' Antimo, a blend of predominantly Sangiovese and Merlot. http://www.fantisanfilippo.com/
